In every city, there are individuals who quietly shape the future, whose commitment to service and vision for change ripple through generations. In Detroit, that person is Waymond Hayes—a man whose life’s work bridges education, community empowerment, and business innovation.

As the Program Director at Focus: HOPE, Waymond is continuing a legacy of hope, equity, and opportunity. With more than 25 years in the field of early childhood education, he stands as both a visionary and a trailblazer. From being among the first children to attend a Head Start program on Detroit’s southeast side, to becoming the first male administrator to open an all-male Head Start Leadership Academy, his journey is deeply personal and profoundly inspiring.

Waymond’s academic path mirrors his dedication: an associate degree from Oakland Community College, a bachelor’s in Family Studies from Rochester College, a master’s from Oakland University, and doctoral work in Organizational Leadership and Educational Leadership. His drive for excellence isn’t just about personal achievement—it’s about equipping himself with the tools to better serve children, families, and the broader community.

But Waymond’s impact extends far beyond education. As the Executive Director of MEN, co-owner of Blue Guys Real Estate, and founder of Forgotten Felons LLC, he channels his entrepreneurial spirit into building opportunities and second chances. His leadership stretches across boardrooms and classrooms alike, serving as Vice President of the Michigan Head Start Association and President of the Board at Genesis.

A proud brother of Phi Beta Sigma, Waymond embodies the fraternity’s guiding motto: “Culture for Service and Service for Humanity.” He has seamlessly woven this ethos into every facet of his career, orchestrating programs that uplift communities, empower families, and inspire future leaders.

What makes Waymond Hayes exceptional isn’t just his résumé—it’s his heart. He is a dynamic speaker, a dedicated mentor, and a passionate advocate who sees potential where others see obstacles. Detroit is fortunate to call him one of its own, because with leaders like Hayes, the future shines brighter.
