Beautiful Machine Magazine celebrated the end of summer by honoring some extraordinary individuals and supporting its charitable mission with an exceptional event at the legendary Berry Gordy’s mansion.

On August 31st, over 250 guests gathered to honor deserving individuals who have made a significant impact throughout the metro Detroit area. Beautiful Machine Magazine recognizes these remarkable contributions by nominating a Man and Woman of the Year. This year’s nominees were Hill Harper for Man of the Year and Portia Powell for Woman of the Year. Both were acknowledged for their outstanding achievements, exemplary leadership, and unwavering dedication. Their contributions have made a significant impact, inspiring others and setting a standard of excellence in the community and worldwide. For all you’ve done and all that is yet to come, we say thank you.

In a delightful surprise, Councilman Coleman Young II honored his father’s legacy, the late and honorable Coleman Young Sr. Coleman II presented “The Spirit of Detroit” awards to distinguished Detroiters who have made their mark in the city. The honorees included Shannon Steel (Steel Capital), Demetrius Carrington (Founder of Beautiful Machine Magazine), Sari Cicurel (product/service contributions), and Antisia King (VP of Mr. Levi’s My-T-Fine Soul Sauce and Beautiful Machine Magazine). With much admiration, they graciously accepted the awards with gratitude.

The evening began with a sweet melody performed by Mallick Austin & Badriyyah setting the mood as guests arrived at a dynamic and elegant setting. The event featured BBQ-style smoked meats by D&K Catering, served with "Soul Sauce" and a variety of delicious sides. The buzz of the night was the question, “Who made the potato salad?” It was none other than Rashara Reno from Peace of Harvest, whose perfect homemade potato salad blend disappeared in moments. Our Handcrafted libations provided by "Taste of Black Spirits," featuring the signature drinks of the night.

As the evening wound down, the event transitioned to a fashion show led by Taylor Lang, a native Detroiter and founder and CEO of Taylor Lang Modeling and Talent Company. Taylor's goal is to provide a space where models, even from a young age, can learn the skills needed to navigate the modeling industry successfully. In collaboration with Taylor, Antea from Maximilian Furs put together a fabulous show featuring local designers. The first half showcased swimwear by 626 Fashion by Nyla Colvard and “7 Piece 7 Ways” by Najeebah Tanzil, as well as fabulous furs and accessories by Maximilian. The models strutted the runway with the latest fashionable pieces, culminating in a stunning finale with beautiful, elegant gowns by Sienna Treece. The ladies and gentlemen were dressed to impress and ready for showtime, making it a night to remember with a special performance by Christian Vegh featuring hit latest single “Gold Star."
