In every city, there are stories that rarely get told. Stories of individuals navigating the weight of the judicial system, families struggling to stay intact, and communities searching for stability in the face of adversity. Too often, the focus stops at the moment of impact. Rarely do we explore what it takes to rebuild afterward.
That is where the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, known as RAKS, steps in with purpose, compassion, and a clear understanding that true change requires more than temporary solutions. It requires commitment to the whole person, and more importantly, to the entire family unit.
RAKS was founded on a powerful mission to support those affected by the judicial process, poverty, lack of familial support, and unforeseen misfortune. What separates this organization from many others is its willingness to address every layer of that impact. This is not just about offering assistance. It is about restoring dignity, rebuilding confidence, and creating a path forward.

At the heart of RAKS is a deep commitment to individuals who have experienced incarceration and the families who often carry that burden alongside them. Reintegration into society is rarely simple. It comes with emotional, psychological, and financial challenges that can feel overwhelming without guidance. RAKS recognizes this reality and meets people exactly where they are.
Equally important, the foundation extends its support to victims as well. This balanced approach speaks to a larger philosophy. Healing cannot happen in fragments. It must involve everyone connected to the experience. By focusing on the family unit as a whole, RAKS is working to break cycles that have impacted generations.
One of the organization’s most critical areas of focus is mental health. Stability begins in the mind, and for many underserved individuals, access to counseling and therapy remains out of reach. RAKS is actively bridging that gap by connecting people to the resources they need to regain balance and clarity. This investment in mental wellness becomes the foundation for everything that follows.
From there, the work becomes practical and empowering. Participants are guided through the fundamentals of everyday life. Budgeting. Setting achievable goals. Understanding priorities. These are the building blocks that create independence and long term success. RAKS ensures that individuals are not only prepared to move forward but equipped to thrive.
The foundation does not stop at preparation. RAKS is committed to creating real opportunities that lead to sustainable independence and meaningful contribution to society.
Programs and Services That Make the Difference
RAKS brings its mission to life through a series of impactful services designed to meet people where they are and guide them toward where they can be.
Job placement is a cornerstone of the organization’s work. With a focus on skills development and building confidence, the program creates clear pathways for long term success and reintegration into the community. It is not just about finding a job. It is about building a future.
Wellness programming ensures that participants are supported holistically. These tailored programs focus on physical fitness, mental clarity, and emotional balance, offering a variety of activities that promote a high quality lifestyle and a renewed sense of self.
Family therapy is another critical component of the RAKS model. These programs are designed to support families navigating challenges while strengthening their relationships. In a safe and structured environment, families are able to explore their dynamics, improve communication, and develop effective problem solving skills that create lasting unity.
Meet the Founders

“My name is Craig Whilby and I am the founder of RAKS. After being justice impacted, I felt the need to give back, so I created Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, a platform for service. With the help of God, who guides me, the vision for RAKS is not just to be a foundation, but a movement that others can learn from and replicate to help build stronger communities.”
Standing alongside that vision is Alicia D. Hatcher, Co Founder of Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, a justice impacted leader whose commitment to service is both personal and powerful. Through her leadership, RAKS continues to expand its reach by providing education, access to skill trades, and mental health awareness. Her work ensures that individuals returning from incarceration are not only supported, but empowered to rebuild their lives with purpose, discipline, and opportunity.
Together, Craig Whilby and Alicia D. Hatcher represent more than leadership. They represent lived experience transformed into meaningful action. Their work is rooted in understanding, fueled by faith, and driven by a belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to rise.
In a world that often rushes to judge but hesitates to rebuild, Random Acts of Kindness Foundation is doing the necessary work. The meaningful work. The work that reminds us that people are not defined by their circumstances, but by the opportunities they are given to rise beyond them.
This is what it looks like when compassion meets strategy. When kindness becomes action. When a community decides that everyone deserves a second chance, and the support to make it count.
