Interview by Mikey Eckstein For Beautiful Machine Magazine

When it comes to Detroit media, few new faces have made an impression as quickly as Bre Teamer. Her charisma, intelligence, and energy have helped make her a rising star at Fox 2 News, where she connects with the community in authentic and relatable ways. Beautiful Machine’s Mikey Eckstein sat down with Bre to talk about her unconventional path into broadcasting, her Detroit roots, and what keeps her grounded both on and off camera.
Mikey: What up doe, Bre Teamer? Tell us how long you’ve been with Fox 2 and how your on-air gig came about.
Bre: My journey into television news didn’t follow the usual script — in fact, it started at a Fox 2 networking event for PR professionals two years ago. I majored in Public Relations and Strategic Communications, so I went just hoping to make a few connections. I ended up making a life-changing one. After the event, I posted a short recap video on social media just for fun — but that video found its way to the News Director and General Manager. They reached out, invited me to the station, and after a few conversations, I found myself signing a contract for a role I hadn’t even imagined when I first walked into that event.
Mikey: Tell us a little about yourself — what do you love, and who are some of your favorite Detroit artists?
Bre: There are three things that can pull me out of any funk: good food, good music, and my dog. I love spending time with family and friends, having a good “ki,” and keeping life light. I’m naturally chill, funny, and genuine — that’s just me. And as for music? My favorite Detroit artist will always be Kash Doll. Her vibe is real and authentic, and I think that’s what sets her apart.
Mikey: What about your favorite spots to eat around Detroit?
Bre: Hands down, Pegasus in Greektown. Their Saganaki and Minestrone soup are unbeatable! But I’m always open to trying new restaurants — just not exotic meats. That’s where I draw the line.
Mikey: Do you prefer broadcasting in studio or on location?
Bre: It depends on the day. I love being out in the community meeting people and hearing their stories, but there’s also something electric about being in the newsroom, delivering the day’s news as it unfolds.
Mikey: What’s been your most memorable interview so far?
Bre: Interviewing Dr. Tonesha Welch, often known as the “First Lady of BMF,” was one that really stuck with me. She’s so much more than that label. Our conversation went deep — about her life, challenges, and triumphs — and I think viewers saw a side of her that many never had before.
Mikey: Who are a couple of people you’d love to interview?
Bre: There are so many inspiring people I’d love to sit down with. But more than that, I’m passionate about helping people share their stories — stories of redemption, resilience, and success. I want my platform to go beyond entertainment and give people a reason to feel connected, inspired, and seen.
Mikey: Do you still get nervous before live interviews?
Bre: Oh, absolutely — 1000%! I still get butterflies sometimes. I was especially nervous interviewing Kash Doll, since she’s one of my favorites.
Mikey: You’ve mentioned your love of travel — what are your top destinations so far, and where do you want to go next?
Bre: My top three trips so far have been New York, Mexico, and Jamaica. Next up on my bucket list are England, The Maldives, and Japan.
Mikey: Were there any anchors who inspired a young Bre Teamer?
Bre: Definitely. Locally, Al Allen from Fox 2 was a big influence — my dad had him on every morning, and he became part of my daily life. Nationally, Robin Roberts has always inspired me. Her grace, empathy, and strength set such a powerful example.
Mikey: Any advice for young people hoping to become on-air personalities?
Bre: Don’t be afraid to take the scenic route. This industry isn’t always a straight line — sometimes it’s full of zigzags and U-turns, and that’s okay. Try everything, especially the things that scare you — those moments help you grow. And above all, stay true to yourself. Your voice, your story, your perspective — that’s your superpower.
Bre Teamer’s journey is a reminder that opportunity often finds you when you least expect it — and when it does, authenticity, curiosity, and courage make all the difference.
