Darryl Ervin is not entering public service for the first time. In many ways, he has been preparing for this moment his entire life.
A lifelong Detroiter, devoted husband, and father of three, Ervin has built a career rooted in service, strategy, and community impact. Now, he is taking that experience to the next level as he runs for the Michigan House of Representatives in District 9, representing communities he has long supported through both policy work and grassroots leadership
Ervin’s journey reflects a rare balance of corporate discipline and community commitment. He began his professional career as a financial analyst at Deloitte, where he developed a strong foundation in finance, accounting, and strategic problem solving. From there, Ervin transitioned into government, serving as a staffer in Michigan’s Senate District 3. As the founder of SLS Detroit, a 501(c)(3) organization, Ervin has created meaningful opportunities for young people across the city. His work extends nationally as well. Ervin serves on the board of directors for buildOn, an organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty through education and service. Through this role and other partnerships, including collaborations with the Horatio Williams Foundation, he has helped build mentorship programs and leadership initiatives that empower the next generation.
Ervin’s impact has not gone unnoticed. His leadership and community involvement have been recognized by outlets such as Hour Detroit and Michigan State University, highlighting both his professional accomplishments and his dedication to service.
Now, his campaign for Michigan House District 9 represents a natural progression of that work. The district itself is rooted in the same communities he has long served, making this campaign less about introduction and more about continuation.
