Darryl Ervin is not entering public service for the first time. In many ways, he has been preparing for this moment his entire life.
A lifelong Detroiter, devoted husband, and father of three, Ervin has built a career rooted in service, strategy, and community impact. Now, he is taking that experience to the next level as he runs for the Michigan House of Representatives in District 9, representing communities he has long supported through both policy work and grassroots leadership
Ervin’s journey reflects a rare balance of corporate discipline and community commitment. He began his professional career as a financial analyst at Deloitte, where he developed a strong foundation in finance, accounting, and strategic problem solving. That experience sharpened his ability to understand complex systems and budgets, skills that would later prove essential in public service.
From there, Ervin transitioned into government, serving as a staffer in Michigan’s Senate District 3. In that role, he worked directly with residents across Detroit, helping them navigate state resources, address concerns, and ensure their voices were heard in Lansing. It was a position that required both technical knowledge and a genuine connection to the community, and Ervin brought both.

That combination of experience continues to shape his approach today. He understands policy from the inside, but he also understands its real world impact on families, neighborhoods, and everyday life. Whether reviewing budgets or attending local block club meetings, Ervin has built a reputation as someone who listens, engages, and delivers.
Beyond government, his commitment to Detroit is deeply reflected in his nonprofit work. As the founder of SLS Detroit, a 501(c)(3) organization, Ervin has created meaningful opportunities for young people across the city. The organization focuses on service, leadership, and skills development, helping youth stay engaged and on a path toward success.
His work extends nationally as well. Ervin serves on the board of directors for buildOn, an organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty through education and service. Through this role and other partnerships, including collaborations with the Horatio Williams Foundation, he has helped build mentorship programs and leadership initiatives that empower the next generation.
Ervin’s impact has not gone unnoticed. His leadership and community involvement have been recognized by outlets such as Hour Detroit and Michigan State University, highlighting both his professional accomplishments and his dedication to service.
Now, his campaign for Michigan House District 9 represents a natural progression of that work. The district itself is rooted in the same communities he has long served, making this campaign less about introduction and more about continuation.
His priorities reflect the needs he has witnessed firsthand. Ervin is focused on strengthening public schools, expanding opportunities for young people, and investing in affordable housing. He is also committed to supporting small businesses, ensuring clean air and water, advancing universal childcare, and building an economy where Detroit families can do more than survive. His vision is centered on helping them truly thrive.
For Ervin, this campaign is not about titles or recognition. It is about responsibility. It is about ensuring that the people who have poured into Detroit for generations are the ones who benefit from its growth and future.
There is a grounded confidence in the way he approaches this next chapter. His background in finance gives him the ability to understand the numbers. His time in Lansing gives him insight into how policy is shaped. And his work in the community keeps him connected to what truly matters.
Darryl Ervin is not stepping into unfamiliar territory. He is stepping forward with purpose, experience, and a clear vision for District 9.
And for the communities he hopes to represent, that distinction makes all the difference.
