Born and raised in Detroit Erica Simpson represents the kind of determination and ambition that continues to move the city forward. A proud graduate of Mumford High School Erica has spent nearly three decades building a reputation as one of the most respected mortgage professionals in Michigan. Today many throughout Metro Detroit proudly know her as the “Mortgage Queen of Detroit.”

Her rise in the mortgage industry began at just 18 years old when she relocated to Georgia to work alongside her sister at a mortgage brokerage in Decatur. While many people entering the business focused only on sales Erica focused on learning every aspect of the industry from the ground up. She immersed herself in processing underwriting operations and structuring loan files while developing a deep understanding of how mortgage lending truly works.

Those early years became the foundation for everything that followed.

After gaining valuable experience in Georgia Erica returned home to Detroit determined to use her knowledge to help the community that raised her. She understood that many families needed more than a lender. They needed guidance education and someone who genuinely cared about helping them succeed.

Erica quickly became known for her ability to solve difficult loan files and help borrowers navigate challenging financial situations. She eventually opened her own mortgage processing company and built strong relationships throughout the industry with brokers lenders title companies and real estate professionals. Her reputation for professionalism preparation and problem solving helped her grow into one of the city’s most trusted names in mortgage lending.

Her success eventually led to the opportunity to open and manage multiple mortgage branches before becoming Vice President of Mortgage Lending at Rate Mortgage.

Despite her professional accomplishments Erica never lost touch with the everyday struggles many people face financially. One of the reasons so many clients trust her is because she openly speaks about overcoming her own setbacks including credit struggles repossessions foreclosures and rebuilding financially. Those experiences gave her a level of empathy and understanding that cannot be taught.

She understands the emotional side of financial hardship because she has personally experienced it.

That understanding inspired her “No Borrower Left Behind” philosophy which has become one of the defining principles of her career. Instead of simply turning people away Erica works closely with borrowers to help them develop realistic strategies for homeownership and financial improvement. Whether someone is purchasing their first home rebuilding credit seeking down payment assistance or refinancing Erica approaches every client with patience honesty and determination.

Away from business Erica is most proud of her role as a mother. She has three children including twin sons who are now 25 years old and a daughter who is already enrolled in dual enrollment college courses while preparing to graduate in 2026. Her dedication to family mirrors the same discipline commitment and determination that have defined her career.
