As a woman living with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), Lux Love has faced challenges that have deeply impacted her life and self-image. PCOS is a hormonal disorder that affects millions of women worldwide, causing symptoms like menstrual irregularity, excess hair growth, persistent acne, and difficulties with fertility. While the exact cause of PCOS remains unknown, its effects on both physical and emotional well-being are profound.
Lux, a Detroit native and owner of Drink & Draw, is also a figure drawing model, founder of the Grand Rapids Fine Arts Club, and an abstract painter. She has turned her personal struggles into a platform for empowerment, awareness, and art. Drink & Draw is not just an event; it’s a PCOS Awareness initiative that celebrates the human body through art, bringing people together to explore the beauty of natural anatomy.
Drink & Draw is an interactive event that combines live figure drawing with PCOS awareness. Held in venues across Detroit and Grand Rapids, each event features live nude models, complimentary drinks, local spoken word artists, and a display of Lux’s abstract art. The concept is simple yet profound: showcasing the human body in all its forms as art. Lux believes in viewing each body as a piece of abstract art, unique and beautiful in its differences.
Lux’s battle with PCOS made her feel disconnected from her body. The excessive hair growth, unrelenting acne, and the emotional toll of infertility were compounded by painful ovarian cysts, leading to moments of deep self-loathing. However, Lux found solace in art. She began hosting body empowerment events and leaned into abstract painting, allowing her to reframe her perception of her own body.
These events became more than just artistic gatherings; they were therapeutic spaces where Lux could embrace her body and empower others to do the same. “I love myself more and more when I host Drink & Draw events because it’s an experience that not only provides an educational platform about PCOS but also helps boost confidence among women,” says Lux. She encourages men to attend as well, emphasizing the importance of broadening awareness of PCOS among all genders.
Drink & Draw is not just an art event—it’s a statement. It’s a celebration of all bodies, an exploration of anatomy, and a powerful medium to educate and raise awareness about PCOS. Lux’s events foster a community of support, blending art with advocacy and creating a safe space for dialogue.
Lux is passionate about connecting with others and building collaborations with like-minded individuals and organizations. Her goal is to elevate awareness of PCOS, foster self-love, and continue inspiring others through her art. For Lux, art is not just a form of expression but a means of healing and empowerment.
Lux Love invites everyone to join the Drink & Draw movement.
