Serving the uneducated and miseducated, Ebony Cochran has become a beacon of resilience, empowerment, and transformation. Known as “The Debt Survivor,” she is a serial entrepreneur and community change agent whose mission is to teach the essential life lessons that schools often overlook. Through credit consulting, mentorship, and fearless leadership, Ebony has inspired thousands of Detroiters to reclaim their financial power and reimagine their futures.
In 2014, she launched Blackwood Credit Services, a firm that quickly distinguished itself from the sea of questionable operators who prey on desperation. Instead of quick fixes or gimmicks, Ebony built her company on transparency, accuracy, and proven results. With over $59 million in debt successfully eliminated and more than 6,200 people consulted, she has earned a reputation for transforming lives with integrity. Ebony’s mantra, “do the work,” resonates not only in her business practices but in the way she inspires clients to take ownership of their futures.
Her story is one of grit and grace. Once a single teen mother on welfare, Ebony became her very first client proving that through diligence, discipline, and education, barriers can be broken. She built and sold a seven-figure tax business to H&R Block, owned and sold over 100 Detroit properties, and even purchased and later sold a Little Caesars franchise. Each venture fueled her mission of service rather than self-indulgence.
In 2025, Ebony expanded her impact by founding the Detroit Wealth Club, a nonprofit business school dedicated to building generational wealth through education and entrepreneurship. Focusing on seven pillars, from personal credit to estate planning, the program equips families with the tools to secure lasting financial stability. Her commitment to making opportunity accessible is unmatched; she has helped launch over 300 businesses at no cost through her public startup events.

Recognized by Rolling Out Magazine, a Michigan Chronicle’s 40 Under 40 awardee, and honored with the Women of Excellence Award, Ebony’s influence has reached far beyond Detroit. Yet, her proudest accomplishments remain deeply personal: being a wife, a mother of two daughters, and a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
For Ebony Cochran, success is not measured in wealth alone, but in legacy—strong families, thriving communities, and futures built on knowledge, discipline, and peace of mind. She is more than a debt survivor; she is Detroit’s proof that with vision and courage, transformation is possible for anyone willing to do the work.
