The Detroit Historical Museum is transforming its Gallery of Culture into a sparkling new Hudson’s Holidays exhibition. Opening November 8 and running through January 5, the exhibition unveils hundreds of Hudson’s artifacts, inviting visitors to step back in time and experience the wonder of Hudson’s famed window displays from every era—recreated to capture the sights and spirit of Detroit’s most iconic department store. Visit during regular museum hours. The Detroit Historical Society is offering free admission on December 7, 14, and 21 to celebrate the season and encourage the community to enjoy this nostalgic holiday experience.

The displays will highlight treasured pieces from Hudson’s rich history, including Thanksgiving Parade objects and stories from the parade’s earliest years, wartime Hudsonian magazine covers, and original store fixtures such as the brass drinking fountain, children’s barber chair, and commemorative plaque. Visitors will also find women’s and men’s fashion, housewares and dining pieces—including china and silverware—and a nostalgic nod to Toytown, the holiday wonderland that once captured children’s imaginations for generations.
Together, these displays will bring Hudson’s holiday traditions to life, evoking the joy, elegance, and community spirit that defined Detroit’s holidays for decades.
The museum’s beloved Streets of Old Detroit will also be decorated for the holidays, adding even more festive charm to a visit filled with history, tradition, and holiday spirit.
