Grab your cape and get ready to walk for Michigan’s autism community.
More than 4,000 individuals, families, supporters and advocates are expected to gather at the Detroit Zoo on Saturday, September 19th beginning at 7am for the Autism Alliance of Michigan’s 2026 Autism Hero Walk—Michigan’s largest gathering celebrating families affected by autism.
The colorful, highly visual event will feature participants dressed as superheroes, an energetic opening ceremony and a one-mile walk through the zoo. Families can also explore an Autism Marketplace featuring more than 50 vendors, along with arts and crafts, entertainment and activities for all ages.
Funds raised through the walk will help Autism Alliance of Michigan provide vital services, resources and advocacy for individuals with autism and their families across the state.
This would make a meaningful live or recorded segment featuring:
- Families sharing their personal autism journeys
- Colorful superhero costumes, signs and team shirts
- Interviews with Autism Alliance of Michigan leadership
- The opening ceremony and community walk
- Information about autism resources available to Michigan families
- The impact donations have on AAoM’s statewide programs and services
