Welcome to “Jealous or Justified,” Beautiful Machine Magazine’s monthly advice column where readers ask for honest opinions about real life situations. In this column, “jealous” does not always mean envy. Sometimes it simply means you believe the person is wrong, overreacting, unfair, or out of line. “Justified” means you understand and support their actions or feelings. Each month, we let our readers decide.

Jealous or Justified,
My Fiancé Got a DUI and I Called Off the Wedding
I really need some honest advice because my family and friends are split on this situation. I’ve been with my fiancée for almost eight years. We met in college, built our careers together, and were supposed to get married in three months. On paper, everything looked perfect. We both have successful careers and big dreams for the future.
The problem is that throughout our relationship, I’ve constantly had to talk to her about risky behavior, especially drinking and driving. I’ve warned her at least ten times over the years not to do it. Every time I brought it up, she would laugh it off and say I was too serious, old fashioned, or overly concerned. But I was raised differently. My father taught me that your reputation, your discipline, and your decision making matter. I’ve spent years carefully building my future because I aspire to become a successful attorney and maybe even mayor of my city one day.
Well, last week, my worst fear happened. She got arrested for DUI.
I know people make mistakes, but for me this feels bigger than one bad decision. I feel like it shows she doesn’t listen to me when something serious is at stake. It makes me question whether she values her future the same way I value mine. If she ignores something this important, what happens later with marriage, children, finances, or other responsibilities?
I decided to call off the wedding and end the relationship. Some people are calling me harsh and saying I’m overreacting over “just a DUI.” Others say I’m justified for protecting my future.
So tell me honestly… am I jealous or justified?

There comes a point in life when some people decide they no longer want to simply work for a paycheck. They want purpose. They want passion. They want to build something that truly impacts people. For Anthony Cook that moment came after nearly three decades in the world of Supply Chain and Logistics when he made the courageous decision to walk away from corporate America and fully embrace a completely different path rooted in creativity connection and community.
At 49 years old Anthony Cook has become one of the driving creative forces behind Detroit Tuft an interactive tufting and textile art studio that is quickly becoming one of Detroit’s most unique creative experiences. What Anthony and his wife and business partner Brandy Cook have built is far bigger than an art studio. It is an atmosphere. It is a feeling. It is a place where people are encouraged to relax express themselves and reconnect with their creativity in a way many have not experienced in years.
Anthony’s journey into the world of art was not traditional which makes his story even more inspiring. After spending 27 successful years building a career in corporate America he chose in November 2023 to bet on himself and pursue the passion that had been calling him toward something greater. What initially began as creating custom tufted pieces for clients quickly evolved into something much more meaningful once Anthony realized the true joy was not only in creating art but in teaching others how to discover their own creativity.
That discovery became the foundation of Detroit Tuft.

Together Anthony and Brandy created an experience unlike anything else in the city by blending tufting art music karaoke dancing relaxation and genuine human interaction into one unforgettable environment. Guests are not simply customers walking into a business. They become part of an experience intentionally designed to make them feel inspired appreciated and connected.
In a time when so many businesses have lost the personal touch Anthony believes customer service itself is an art form. That philosophy can be felt the moment people walk through the doors of Detroit Tuft. Every interaction every session and every detail is built around making guests feel like they received something far greater than what they paid for.
That commitment to people has become one of the biggest reasons Detroit Tuft continues gaining attention throughout the city.
Anthony’s vision also extends far beyond entertainment. He understands the power creativity can have on confidence focus and self expression especially for young people. Through the Detroit Public Schools Community District GOAL Line after school program Anthony mentors students from third through eighth grade by teaching them the art of tufting while encouraging discipline imagination and confidence. For many students the experience becomes more than learning a craft. It becomes an outlet and a source of inspiration.
Anthony’s ability to connect with both adults and youth speaks directly to the heart of who he is. Whether hosting immersive date nights corporate events or mentoring children he approaches every experience with authenticity passion and purpose.

As Detroit Tuft continues to grow Anthony and Brandy are already envisioning something even bigger for the future. Their goal is to create a permanent standalone location that expands access to the arts through youth entrepreneurship programs senior citizen enrichment experiences and community centered creative education. They want Detroit Tuft to become a lasting cultural space where creativity and connection can thrive for generations.
In many ways Anthony Cook represents the spirit of reinvention that so many people dream about but few actually pursue. He stepped away from comfort security and familiarity to follow a vision built on passion and purpose. Through faith resilience and a commitment to uplifting others he has helped create something truly special in Detroit.
One tuft one lesson and one connection at a time Anthony Cook is helping people rediscover the beauty of creativity and reminding the city that art still has the power to bring people together.

INFORMATION OVERLOAD, HOW MISINFORMATION HAS DESTROYED US ALL

By Adrian Coleman
Something dangerous is happening to people and I am not sure society fully understands how serious it has become.
We are living in an era where misinformation has become entertainment and conspiracy theories have become a substitute for critical thinking. The Internet has created millions of self proclaimed experts who confidently speak on celebrities, religion, politics, business, and psychology despite having absolutely no real knowledge or proximity to the people they are discussing.
The scary part is not simply that misinformation exists. Misinformation has always existed. The frightening part is how emotionally attached people have become to things they cannot prove.
Recently I had a conversation with a woman who began passionately explaining why the Met Gala was supposedly demonic. She started trying to connect the word Met to some dark spiritual meaning she had heard online. Before she could even finish her sentence I stopped her and asked a simple question.
“Do you even know what Met stands for?”
She froze.
I explained that the Met Gala is short for the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala in New York City. Metropolitan. That is literally what the word means in that context. The conversation stopped dead in its tracks because she suddenly realized she was repeating an Internet theory she had never actually researched for herself.
That moment perfectly captured where society is right now.
People hear something online and immediately adopt it as truth without even taking five minutes to verify basic information.
During another conversation a very intelligent young woman told me that Blue Ivy was allegedly allowed into the Met Gala because powerful people are grooming her to replace Beyoncé as a sacrifice. I sat there genuinely shocked. Not because I was offended but because this is how far the Internet rabbit hole has gone. A successful educated woman was confidently repeating something so absurd that it sounded like dialogue from a science fiction movie.
And yet she believed it.
This is what happens when people consume endless streams of emotionally manipulative content from strangers online who profit from outrage paranoia and fear.
Now to be fair I understand why people are skeptical these days.
The revelations surrounding the Epstein files have shaken public trust. We have learned that some wealthy and powerful people have indeed been involved in disturbing illegal and morally disgusting behavior. That reality has caused many people to question institutions celebrities politicians and even religion itself. I understand that completely. History has shown us that power can corrupt people.
Healthy skepticism is normal.
Questioning systems is normal.
Holding powerful people accountable is necessary.
But somewhere along the way skepticism turned into fantasy role playing.
People now speak about celebrities as if they personally know their hearts motives business dealings and private lives despite never having met them worked with them or even shared the same room with them.
That is where this becomes dangerous.
I recently heard a woman say that comedian and actor Kevin Hart had been “bought and sold.” Bought and sold by who? Based on what evidence? How could she possibly know that? She does not know that man personally. She does not know his intentions. She does not know his business decisions. She has never walked a single minute in his shoes. Yet she spoke with complete certainty because somebody online planted the idea in her head.
The same thing constantly happens to Jay-Z and Beyoncé. Every week there is a new theory. They are devil worshippers. They control secret organizations. They manipulate artists. They sacrifice people. Meanwhile there is rarely any evidence beyond edited videos dramatic music and emotionally charged commentary from content creators who have never interacted with these people in real life.
I even watched someone criticize Jay Z because he sold businesses and ownership stakes over the years. The person argued that he used his fans because he exited profitable ventures. That statement alone revealed how disconnected many people are from reality. Buying low and selling high is literally how business works. Entrepreneurs build companies. Investors grow assets. Businesses merge and sell every single day in America. That is capitalism. Yet social media has empowered people with zero business experience to loudly criticize billion dollar strategies they do not remotely understand.
The Internet rewards this behavior because outrage spreads faster than facts.
A calm explanation rarely goes viral.
Paranoia does.
Fear does.
Conspiracy does.
People are becoming emotionally addicted to believing they possess hidden knowledge. It gives them a false sense of superiority and intelligence. Unfortunately many of them are becoming disconnected from logic in the process.
We are watching people lose their ability to separate speculation from reality.
Research has been replaced by reaction.
Evidence has been replaced by emotion.
Common sense has been replaced by algorithms.
Again this does not mean powerful people should never be questioned. They absolutely should. But accusations without proof are reckless. Repeating theories about people you have never met is irresponsible. Assigning evil intentions to strangers based on TikTok videos and YouTube breakdowns is not intelligence.
It is information overload.
And in many cases it is driving people into paranoia disguised as awareness.
At some point we have to return to basic reasoning. We have to relearn how to think critically before speaking so confidently about people whose lives we know absolutely nothing about. Because once society loses its grip on facts and logic everybody becomes vulnerable to manipulation.
That is not enlightenment.
That is chaos.

HOW TO PICK THE PERFECT WATERMELON

As the summer months arrive, one of the biggest life decisions I face every year is how to pick a perfectly ripe watermelon. There is nothing worse than getting home, slicing into a beautiful melon, and realizing it tastes like crunchy water with disappointment sprinkled on top. Over the years, I have learned that choosing the right watermelon is almost an art form.
The first thing to look for is the field spot. That creamy yellow patch on the bottom of the watermelon is where it sat on the ground ripening in the sun. If the spot is white or pale green, chances are the melon was picked too early. A deep buttery yellow spot usually means sweet success.
Next comes the weight test. A ripe watermelon should feel heavier than it looks. More weight means more water, and more water usually means juicy goodness waiting inside. Pick up a few and compare them. Your arms may get a workout, but your taste buds will thank you later.
Then there is the famous knocking method. Give the watermelon a firm tap. A ripe one should produce a deep hollow sound, almost like a drum. If it sounds dull or flat, keep it moving.
Finally, pay attention to the shape and skin. A good watermelon should look symmetrical without strange bumps or dents. The skin should also appear dull rather than shiny. Shiny watermelons are often underripe.
Choosing the perfect watermelon may not solve all of life’s problems, but on a hot summer day, it comes pretty close.

NEW YORK RATS MAY BE SPEAKING THEIR OWN LANGUAGE

By Andre Holloway
There are few things more connected to New York City than pizza, yellow taxis, loud personalities, and rats. Lots of rats. For decades people have joked that the rats in New York are practically citizens themselves. They ride subway tracks, sprint through alleyways, survive brutal winters, and somehow continue thriving no matter what the city throws at them. But now scientists are saying something that sounds almost unbelievable. New York’s rats may actually be communicating with each other using a unique language.
Yes, seriously.
Researchers studying urban rat populations have reportedly discovered that rats make highly specific sounds and frequencies to communicate information to one another. Scientists have long known that rats squeak and use sound to signal danger or attract mates, but newer studies suggest their communication may be far more advanced than previously understood. Some researchers believe city rats adapt their vocal patterns based on environment, survival needs, and social structures within colonies.
In simple terms, New York rats may have developed their own version of slang.
That idea sounds funny until you really think about it. Rats are among the most adaptable creatures on Earth. They survive floods, poison, construction, extreme temperatures, and nonstop human attempts to eliminate them. New York City itself is like a living organism that never sleeps. If any animal would evolve advanced communication skills to survive there, it would probably be rats.
Scientists have also noted that rats display social behaviors many people never associate with them. They warn each other about danger. They teach younger rats survival habits. They remember locations and pathways. Some studies even suggest rats show empathy toward injured members of their groups. Suddenly these little creatures running through subway tunnels sound less like mindless pests and more like tiny underground strategists.
Of course, none of this means people are about to start respecting rats. Let’s be honest. Nobody wants one running across their kitchen floor at two in the morning. New Yorkers still want cleaner streets and fewer rodent sightings. But the research does force people to look differently at the world around them. Human beings often assume intelligence belongs only to us or to animals we personally find cute or useful.
Meanwhile the rats have apparently been having conversations this whole time.
There is also something strangely poetic about this happening in New York. The city is famous for millions of people from different cultures creating new dialects, new music, and new forms of communication. Maybe the rats adapted the same way. Maybe surviving one of the toughest cities in the world requires everybody to learn a new language, even rodents.
One thing is certain. The next time you see a rat freeze and stare at you from across a subway platform, you may wonder if it is warning the others about you too.

HART PLAZA WILL BELONG TO DETROIT THIS JUNETEENTH

By Kendall Reese

Detroit does not just create culture. Detroit moves culture forward. This Juneteenth, Hart Plaza will become the center of that energy as some of the city’s biggest artists, entrepreneurs, tastemakers, and community leaders gather for what is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated summer events in the Midwest.
The Hart of Detroit Festival will take over Detroit’s legendary riverfront on Friday, June 19, 2026, from noon until midnight with a full day dedicated to music, Black freedom, entrepreneurship, and Detroit pride. Headlined by Kash Doll, Babytron, and Fetty Wap, the festival promises to blend major star power with the authentic spirit of the city that continues to influence music and culture around the world.
Detroit heavyweights including Icewear Vezzo, Boldy James, Trick Trick, Peezy, Baby Money, Bruiser Wolf, GT, Courtney Bell, and many more are also scheduled to perform, creating a lineup that feels like a celebration of Detroit’s present and future at the same time.
The event is more than a concert. Organizers are creating an experience rooted in community and opportunity. Guests will enjoy two performance stages, food trucks, local vendors, community activations, and spaces designed to spotlight Black owned businesses and civic engagement.
One of the standout attractions will be the Mitten Makers Market presented by Chris Sain, featuring local creatives and entrepreneurs from across the city. The D Town Foodie Hub will showcase Detroit’s vibrant culinary scene while the Civic Engagement Camp presented by Black Male Initiative will encourage awareness, empowerment, and community participation.
The Hart of Detroit Festival arrives at a time when Detroit continues to reclaim its voice as one of America’s most important cultural capitals. Juneteenth celebrations across the country have grown in significance over the last several years, but few cities can bring together music, culture, fashion, activism, and entrepreneurship quite like Detroit.
If this festival delivers on its promise, Hart Plaza may once again remind the world why Detroit remains one of the coolest and most culturally influential cities anywhere.

HE WALKED OUT OF DIVORCE COURT AND WON $273 MILLION THE SAME DAY

By Natalie Monroe

Imagine walking out of divorce court emotionally drained, financially uncertain and probably wondering what your future looks like. Now imagine stopping at a gas station later that same day, grabbing a snack, buying a lottery ticket and waking up a multimillionaire.
That is the sensational story currently setting social media on fire after reports surfaced about a man whose marriage officially ended just hours before he allegedly won a staggering $273 million lottery jackpot.
According to the viral account, the man had spent years faithfully playing the same lottery numbers while his marriage slowly unraveled. After the divorce papers were finalized, he reportedly bought one final ticket on the way home. Hours later his numbers hit, instantly changing his life forever.
The most jaw dropping part of the story is not just the money. It is the timing.
Because the divorce was supposedly finalized before the winning ticket was purchased, legal experts say the jackpot legally belonged to him alone. No split. No negotiations. No emotional courtroom battle over hundreds of millions of dollars. Just one man and a life changing payday.
Social media has turned the story into a full blown debate. Some people are calling it karma. Others say it is proof that timing is everything. A few even joked that the man may be the luckiest newly single person alive.
Whether you believe it was destiny, coincidence or simply unbelievable luck, the story has captured people’s attention because it taps into something deeper. Many of us wonder how quickly life can change. One moment you feel defeated and the next moment everything shifts.
It also reminds us that sometimes the ending of one chapter unexpectedly opens the door to another.

WHAT ARE MILLENNIALS THINKING?

By Demetrius Carrington
There is perhaps no generation in modern American history more discussed, criticized, misunderstood, celebrated, and analyzed than millennials. Depending on who you ask they are either the future of the country or the reason everything is changing too fast. Some people see them as innovators and visionaries while others view them as detached, anxious, and difficult to understand. After years of working with millennials through my role as Publisher of Beautiful Machine Magazine I have come to one conclusion. Millennials are not one thing.
They are not a monolithic group.
They are all over the place emotionally, politically, financially, spiritually, and socially. That is what makes this generation so fascinating. They are a generation shaped by contradiction. They are hopeful and hopeless at the same time. Motivated and exhausted. Spiritually curious but skeptical of organized religion. Socially connected but emotionally isolated. Some are building million dollar brands online while others are struggling to find direction at all. So the question becomes what exactly are millennials thinking?
The answer is complicated.
Many millennials grew up being told that if they worked hard, stayed out of trouble, and earned a college degree they would achieve financial stability and the American Dream. Instead many entered adulthood during economic collapse, massive student loan debt, rising housing costs, stagnant wages, and a job market that often undervalued them. According to research from multiple economic studies millennials are on pace to become the first modern generation projected to earn less wealth over their lifetime than their parents. That reality alone changed the psychology of an entire generation.
Imagine investing tens of thousands of dollars into higher education only to graduate into uncertainty. Many millennials did exactly that. Some are working jobs completely unrelated to their degrees. Others are underpaid despite being highly educated. Some cannot even find stable work in their chosen fields. It created disappointment and distrust toward systems they were told would protect them.
That distrust expanded far beyond economics.

There are millennials who have become deeply disenchanted with government institutions, traditional religion, corporate culture, and even the structure of family itself. They question everything. In many ways that skepticism is healthy. They want authenticity. They want transparency. They are less likely to blindly follow traditions simply because previous generations accepted them.
Many millennials openly admit they have little interest in marriage or having children. The traditional nuclear family model no longer feels realistic or desirable to some of them. Financial pressure plays a major role in that thinking. Raising children is expensive. Buying a home feels out of reach for many. Marriage itself is viewed differently. Some millennials witnessed divorces, broken homes, and emotional instability growing up which shaped their views on long term commitment.
At the same time there are millennials who deeply desire love, family, and stability but simply feel afraid. Afraid of failing financially. Afraid of bringing children into a world they view as unstable. Afraid that the quality of life they imagined may never fully materialize.
This generation carries anxiety in ways previous generations often dismiss.
Mental health conversations are far more open among millennials. Depression, burnout, therapy, trauma, and emotional wellness are discussed publicly in ways that would have been considered taboo years ago. Some critics label millennials as overly sensitive but perhaps they are simply more honest about emotional struggles than previous generations were allowed to be.
Socially and politically millennials have become one of the most active generations in decades. You can clearly see it through movements like Black Lives Matter, social justice campaigns, environmental activism, and conversations surrounding equality and inclusion. Millennials are far more likely to challenge racial injustice, gender inequality, and systemic problems than older generations were at the same age.
Whether people agree with them or not this generation wants its voice heard.
They are politically engaged but often politically frustrated. Many feel neither political party fully represents them. They consume information differently than previous generations. Social media became their newspaper, television station, and public town square all at once. They are constantly exposed to information, outrage, tragedy, inspiration, and debate twenty four hours a day. That level of nonstop stimulation has shaped how they view the world.
Interestingly millennials are also changing social habits. Studies have shown millennials tend to drink less alcohol than previous generations did at the same age while marijuana use has become far more normalized. Wellness culture, mental clarity, and alternative lifestyles are becoming increasingly common among them. Some are rejecting old social norms completely.
But here is where things get truly interesting.
While one segment of millennials feels discouraged another segment is absolutely thriving.
This generation helped create the modern entrepreneur movement. The internet opened doors that never existed before. Social media allowed ordinary people to become brands. Millennials discovered they no longer had to wait for corporations to validate them. They started businesses from bedrooms, smartphones, and laptops. They became influencers, designers, podcasters, photographers, content creators, real estate investors, and tech innovators.
There is an entrepreneurial confidence within parts of this generation that is remarkable to witness.
Many millennials have adopted a win no matter what mentality. They believe freedom is more valuable than security. They are willing to risk stability in pursuit of purpose. Some are building extraordinary wealth outside traditional career paths. They do not necessarily dream of working forty years at one company. They dream of ownership. Independence. Flexibility. Influence.
That mindset simply did not exist on this scale before the rise of the internet.
At the same time there is another side to this generation that cannot be ignored. Some millennials appear completely unmotivated. They drift through life without urgency, discipline, or long term vision. Critics often focus heavily on this group while ignoring the larger social and economic pressures that helped create that mindset. Constant comparison on social media, rising costs of living, and feelings of hopelessness can easily destroy motivation.
The reality is millennials are trying to redefine success in real time.
Previous generations measured success through home ownership, marriage, retirement accounts, and corporate advancement. Millennials often measure success differently. Freedom matters. Peace matters. Mental health matters. Purpose matters. Experiences matter.
They are still trying to figure out what kind of world they inherited and what kind of world they want to create next.
So what are millennials thinking?
They are thinking about survival.
They are thinking about meaning.
They are thinking about fairness.
They are thinking about identity.
They are thinking about money and freedom and whether the systems around them truly work.
Some are scared.
Some are inspired.
Some are lost.
Some are building empires.
And perhaps that is the real story of millennials. They are not one voice. They are millions of different voices attempting to navigate one of the most unpredictable eras in modern history.

CREATING A WORLD OF STYLE WITH NIBAR AHSAL

In a fashion industry that constantly searches for the next fresh voice and original perspective, Nibar Ahsal is quickly becoming a name people are beginning to recognize for all the right reasons. Founded on April 13, 2023 by visionary creative Nikki Barnes, the luxury streetwear brand represents far more than stylish clothing. It represents confidence, individuality, passion, and purpose.
Pronounced “knee bar,” the name Nibar is a combination of Nikki Barnes’ first and last name. Ahsal, pronounced “A Sal,” is her middle name Lasha spelled backwards. Together the names carry deep personal meaning while also standing for something much greater. Nibar means creation, which perfectly reflects the spirit behind the brand and the woman who created it.
From an early age Nikki Barnes always had a love for fashion. Whether as a child or an adult, people constantly complimented her style and the way she carried herself. Friends, family, and even strangers often noticed how effortlessly fashionable she looked. Instead of simply accepting the compliments, Nikki decided to channel her passion into something bigger. She realized that fashion was not just something she loved. It was part of who she was.

That passion eventually became Nibar Ahsal, a luxury streetwear brand designed for people who want to stand out while feeling good about themselves. Nikki believes that when you look good you feel good, and that philosophy can be seen throughout her work. Her love for styling others and helping people feel confident shines through every piece connected to the brand.
What makes Nibar Ahsal especially refreshing is its universal message. Nikki describes the brand as being for everyone. One of her favorite sayings is “it’s a world,” a phrase that reflects inclusivity, creativity, and togetherness. In her eyes fashion should never be limited to one type of person or one community. Nibar Ahsal represents the world and welcomes everyone into its vision.
The brand also carries a deeper motivational message rooted in perseverance and faith. Nikki often closes her story with the phrase “create til the world ends.” To her, those words mean never giving up, never allowing others to define your limits, and always keeping God first.
