Aren’t you glad that 2020 is over? After dealing with the pandemic and intense political climate all year, we can assume that 2021 will be better. You might not have control over the most significant issues facing the world, but you can still make self-improvement goals to enhance your own life. That is what I’m going to do, and you should do it too.

Below are the top 4 things I’m going to do better in 2021. Perhaps you can draw inspiration from these goals and apply them to your life.

1) Get More Exercise

Everyone has a New Year’s goal to lose weight and exercise more. The problem is that most people quit after a few weeks. But I’m not going to quit because exercise will become my daily habit. I’ll start with at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise per day. Each daily exercise routine will alternate between swimming, walking, running, and cycling.

Were you stuck in the house all year because of the pandemic? If so, you should want to exercise too. Move around outside more and spend less time indoors. We all owe that to ourselves for both our mental and physical health.

2) Focus on Better Nutrition

Another downside to being stuck inside all day is the temptation to overeat. Since the refrigerator is always nearby, there is a compulsion to eat food every two or three hours. That is probably why my body weight increased throughout the pandemic.

Did you have that problem too? The best solution is filling your refrigerator and kitchen cupboards with healthier foods only. My kitchen now consists of fruits, vegetables, and grains. I do not buy any foods with added salts and sugars in them.

3) Make More Money

The pandemic was devastating to the economy. Millions of people lost their jobs and struggled to pay the rent and stay afloat. Even if you didn’t lose your job, you were probably furloughed or saw your work hours get reduced. If you owned a business, it most likely took a turn for the worst.

My online business sure took a hit. For this reason, my goal for the new year is to make more money. That might not be so difficult since my state raised the minimum wage to $15 per hour. I plan to work a simple minimum wage job while expanding my online business. Then I can maximize my income and make up for what I lost in 2020.

4) Spend Less Time on Social Media

I want to spend less time on social media. It can be challenging when you’re stuck inside all day because the computer and smartphone occupy so much of your time, as it did mine. But now that I’ll be going out more often, I can turn off the computer and put away the smartphone.

Social media is a complete time waster. There are so many people pushing conspiracy theories, fake news and conducting nonsensical discussions on social media. They are not worth wasting time over. I want to use my time for more productive things, such as writing a book, learning a new language and other tasks to better myself.
