It's really interesting how I was introduced to Elijah Fox's music. I was on a business trip and after a long day of meeting after meeting, I just needed to relax.

On the way to my Hotel, my Driver Camillio was playing some really beautiful music, so of course, I asked him, what we were listening to, he said Elijah Fox.

Curious to hear more I streamed his music while I enjoyed my bath. Since then I've been a huge fan.

His music is smart and sexy, with a great balance of technology and musicianship. It's full of emotions, there's no lying in his music. It's soulful and he makes meaning on every track.

I reached out to Elijah and the following is a bit of our chat.

CM: How do you describe your musical style?
EF: I would describe my musical style as a blend of psychedelic R&B, jazz, and impressionism

CM: Who are some of your musical inspirations?
EF: Art Tatum, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone, Radiohead, Ravel, J Dilla, Elliott Smith

CM: Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with?
EF: Yes Thundercat, Kendrick Lamar, John Mayer, SZA.

CM: When did you know you wanted a career as a musician?
EF: When I was 13 I used to play at this jazz club in Durham, NC, and was taught by my mentor Yusuf Salim, a pianist in his 80s at the time. People heard me at the club and I was chosen to fly down to the British Virgin Islands as the guest soloist with the NCCU Jazz Band. When I was on the flight with my dad overlooking the islands and mountains I was just amazed and grateful and wanted to keep traveling and making music forever.

CM: What would you want to be if you weren’t a musician?
EF: I would either be a historic tour guide or a guy that uses a metal detector on beaches.

CM: What living musician do you admire most? Why?
EF: Stevie Wonder- he's the best songwriter of all time in my opinion, and has the most amazing voice and energy.

His music has been endorsed by Elton John, Ugly God, and Lil Nas X. He has performed throughout the United States and around the world. He has performed with Moses Sumney and collaborated and produced records with Masego, Musiq Soulchild to name just a few, he's also a member of the NC based Soul/Hip Hop group Young Bull.

The world of Elijah Fox is a wonderful place and the music is Beautiful!
