The Evrod Cassimy you may not know

By Mikey Eckstein

We all know Evrod Cassimy for being a trusted newsman, but did you know he has a budding music career also?

He’s preparing to release his third studio project and I got a chance to catch up him. Here’s a bit of our conversation:

ME: What has inspired you to start making and what age did you start taking it seriously?

EC: I started singing at age 3. I’ve been singing my entire life. I started writing music when I was around 18. Here we are on album three at age 37.

ME: At what age did you record your first studio project?

EC: I was about 18 years old when I recorded my first demo in the studio. I wrote every song on it, ten in total, and I was so proud of it at the time. I had a great team of producers and studio engineers. I still have that CD to this day! This was way before you could follow me on Spotify or Apple Music and stream my music there.

ME: Tell us some of the artists that inspire you.

EC: I grew up listening to Usher non-stop. I love his entire music catalog. I’m also inspired by Brian McKnight, Stevie Wonder, Musiq Soulchild, Bruno Mars, and some more indie artists like Travis Garland and Justin Garner.

ME: You have performed at a lot of great places and with some amazing artists, what’s your most memorable show?

EC: I have two! I opened for Patti LaBelle at Motor City Casino Soundboard. That was an incredible experience and my first time meeting her. She was gracious and kind. She watched my show from the side of the stage and even thanked me for opening for her during her show.

Most recently, I opened for Boyz II Men and En Vogue at Freedom Hill. That was a true dream come true, I grew up on them as well. I even have a song on my first album, Newzic, called 90s R&B where I pay homage to all the artists I grew up on. They’re mentioned in the song and to sing that song in front of them was amazing.

I got to interview Shawn Stockman from Boyz II Men before the show for WDIV Local 4 News. It was great to be able to tell him and the guys along with En Vogue how much their music inspires me.

ME: You have a new album coming out, what is the name of it and where and when can people get it?

EC: Yes! My new album is called E3. It’s available EVERYWHERE on Oct 29th.

ME: You also have an album release show coming up. Where and when is it also, what can folks expect at the concert?

EC: I’m beyond excited about this. Yes, on Oct. 30th from 6-8 pm at Emagine Theatre Royal Oak and everyone is invited! You can expect a GREAT show with my band. I’ll be performing songs from all three of my albums.

Every guest goes home with a special swag bag featuring some great gifts. Then there’s a special VIP after-party where we can really have a good time and celebrate the release of E3.

Thank you for your time and we wish you all the best with your new project.
