International Woman's Day

By Demetrius Carrington

It’s an amazing time to be a Woman; although there is still a lot of work to be done, women are getting the respect they’ve longed deserved.

It’s beautiful to see all of these women moving the needle. We have women running major corporations, governing states and, this year, we elected a record number of women to congress. There is no doubt that one day soon a woman will lead our great nation as President of the United States.

The last few years has forced us to take a closer look at how we treat women, the #MeToo movement empowered women and clearly put disrespect and injustice are on their last legs.

Unfortunately, we have seen a woman battle illness, my mom battled Cancer with all the grace of a ballerina, I remember her be too sick to care for herself but making sure the family was still ok.

As a little boy I remember instantly feeling better when my Mom gently put her hand on my forehead to check my temperature, rocking me back and forth until I was sound asleep. I marvel at the beauty of women, the loving kindness, the compassion and understanding, the unyielding strength and protection over their loved ones is like nothing else in the world: women are magical.

Although there are too many women to recognize here, at Beautiful Machine, we look deeper than most to find a great selection of amazing women to tell you about. This year we honor the following women:

Ashley Gold

After many years of working with her family and a successful nine seasons on TruTV’s Hardcore Pawn, Ashley Gold left her family business and started Pawn Chick Shopping. Now known as she runs an online business that sells the most incredible new jewelry and accessories. "I work with top jewelry designers and we stay close to the latest fashion trends. We enjoy dressing the everyday woman and man along with celebrities," she says. Gold knows the ins and outs of the jewelry fashion business. “Assisting my customers in person at shows and online comes natural to me.”

“People thought of me very differently when I was on the show. I basically had to reinvent myself for my business,” she says. “I knew that there was more opportunity for me out there. Now I have a solid business and I’m able to be there for my kids more: and I’m having fun.”

During the past two holiday seasons, Gold has had a pop-up shop at Campus Martius in downtown in Detroit. Ashley Gold frequently blogs and speaks about jewelry fashion in the media. Gold continues to travel the world doing appearances, appraising items, and spending time helping clients through her social media consulting practice.

She is an Oakland County mom of two; she started working in her dad’s pawn shop at age 7. Even then, she knew that she wanted to be a pawnbroker. Still, she took her degree at Michigan State University and the Gemological Institute of America, where she got her certification in diamonds.

“I’m sure I always stood out in the pawn shop industry since there are not a lot of women,” she said. “But people always turn to me for style and fashion advice.” Ashley Gold follows passionately the hottest trends in jewelry and fashion, a topic that she frequently blogs or speaks about in the media. “Jewelry is the focal point of nearly every outfit. We can all wear a dress or a suit but once you style it with a spectacular necklace, bracelet or ring you have turned that outfit into something unique.”

A frequent source for media comment, Ashley she has been featured on CNN, FOX News, HLN, Good Morning America, The Today Show and People Magazine.

Ashley believes in giving back in the community and is frequently seen at community events with her jewelry for shows, auctions or speaking. That is the true Ashley Gold.
