In this Dr. Sabrina says, "Should the Black Republican seek to salvage her relationship with her long time friend?"

Dr. Sabrina Says

November 2020

Dear Dr. Sabrina,

I am really struggling during the Pandemic and Political season. I am a Black Republican and I have had so many attacks from friends, family members, co-workers, and even church members. I understand that people are all over the place with emotions for various reasons. I struggle with this because a very dear friend who we have been friends for 30years, has attacked me for our difference in political views.

I have told her that we should stay away from discussions on politics. I am the Godmother to her children, and she was my maid of honor in my wedding. We share so many things in common, love for music, comedy, our taste in men, and our strong faith. Simply put I love her and really want to remain friends.

However, during the past few months, her comments toward me have become more volatile. She has made mean comments to her children about their “Aunt” being a supporter of racism, told people in church “You know we have a trader among us”, and the final thing, she told me that she can not see how we can remain friends, if 45 (Trump) wins again. I am so saddened by her behavior and want to know should I attempt to salvage the friendship or drop it and cut her off? I am extremely sad because we really have so much more to focus on besides politics.

Should the Black Republican seek to salvage her relationship with her long time friend?
