Dear Dr. Sabrina,

I really need your help!! I am a single mother of a recent high school graduate who is 18. She has been a great student and was accepted into an Ivy League University. I was so excited and even both a t-shirt when we went for a visit. Just to give you a little more background about my daughter, she is totally opposite than me. I am very rule oriented and focused. My daughter is so much like her father (who is not reliable). My daughter is highly creative which is nice but, in my opinion will not pay the bills.

My major problem is my daughter has decided NOT to attend the Ivy League School!!!!! I am mortified, I have cried, screamed, and even threatened to cut her off!! Nothing is working, she has been accepted to a performing arts program and plans to attend there. We have not been speaking and she is staying with her father as he supports this foolishness.
Help Dr. Sabrina am I seeing this wrong??What can I do to make her go the Ivy League school route as I feel it would be best??

Is the Mother right for cutting the daughter off for not attending the Ivy League School?
