Over 15,000 Meals Later: Feed the Frontlines Mission of Providing to Detroit’s First Responders and Restaurants
Here we are a month after the launch of the Feed the Frontlines Initiative, and if there’s one thing that’s evident, is that even in uncertain times, Detroit certainly came together to support one another!
Through Feed the Frontlines, a partnership between The City of Detroit and Angel’s Share, Inc., donations made from program funders, local businesses, and upstanding Michiganders, were used to provide meals to Detroit’s first responders, healthcare workers, EMS, police force, firefighters, and many others who made sacrifices for the safety of our community.
Feed the Frontlines not only provided meals to our frontline, but did so by supporting local restaurants who are impacted due to lack of business during the “Stay Home, Stay Safe, Save Lives” order. As Scott Rutterbush, Founder of Dine Drink Detroit & Curbside Restaurant Weeks mentioned:
“The local restaurant is the heartbeat of our city and we can’t just stand by and let these places go out of business. We all can play a part in helping to keep them going...one meal at a time.”
With this in mind, Feed the Frontlines has delivered over 15,000meals to frontline workers, contributed over
$200,000 to local restaurants, and purchased meals from over 200 restaurants within the city. Some of the places
where meal donations were sent are the following: Detroit Medical Center, Henry Ford Health System, St. John Hospital & Medical Center, Detroit Fire Department, Detroit Police 6th Precinct, and many more. Additionally, a big thanks to the restaurants who provided meals for our frontlines. There were tons who came together to support, such as, The BLOCK Detroit, Floods Detroit, Garden Theater Detroit, Yum Village, El Nacimiento Mexican Restaurant, Jolly Pumpkin Pizzeria and Brewery Detroit, Sicily’s Pizza, Lefty’s Famous Cheese Steak Hoagies, and many, many more!
This noble and humbling cause is all thanks to our Detroit community who came together, so that we can all come
out of this, stronger than ever. If you’d like to make a donation, or if you’re a restaurant and would like to participate, check out Feed the Frontlines Detroitfor more details.
