Councilwoman Mary Sheffield Does it again

On Saturday Councilwoman Mary Sheffield held the 8th annual community engagement event, Occupy the Corner.

The event was held at the Coleman Young Playfield. The event was attended by special invited guests Young Jeezy, U.S. Representative Rashida Tlaib who presented Councilwoman Sheffield with an award acknowledging all the special work she does in the community.

Other guest included Detroit Rappers Sada Baby, Icewear Vezzo, K Deezy and Neisha Neshae among others.

A Spirit of Detroit award was given to Britney Harris, Mother of a slain seven year old son, who has turned her pain into in activism.

The event also featured giveaways to over a thousand Detroit Children. They received bikes, backpacks filled with school supplies and other much needed materials.

Each year this event gets bigger and bigger, and you could see the genuine love Councilwoman Sheffield has for Detroit and it’s residents, especially the children.

I had the Opportunity to chat with her for just a few moments and I asked her what was her motivation for doing this event year after year and she simply said, “It’s an honor to serve the City of Detroit.”
