Born on the north side of Chicago Gus Mufarreh grew up in the inner city. His mother picked up and moved to Michigan after his father was brutally murdered at the age of 29. Single mother raising two sons is not easy. Gus grew up quick and became a huge fan of hip hop music. He started beatboxing at the age of 6 years old.

By the time he was a senior in High School he performed and won every talent show that he has ever performed in. Right after graduating high school his buddy Jevon convinced him to get into the Radio business so he decided he would attend Specs Howard School for broadcast arts.

He was then able to obtain a certificate in radio broadcasting and promotions. While he was earning his certificate he found a love for creating and selling Jewelry. That is when he started working at Hutch's Jewlery. For the next 7 years of Gus's life he was Jeweler to the stars while working for Clear Channel and CBS radio.

After almost a decade of the jewelry business Gus wanted to travel so he decided to work for CBS radio where he traveled to different city's working for hip hop radio stations. At this point is where Gus found his passion for food. He was visiting California and that's when the passion to become the ultimate food enthusiast came about. Food Porn Detroit was born. He then moved back to the Metro Detroit area to build his brand. His company slogan is “Don’t Just Live Life... Taste Life” and he really does taste life.


Gus Mufarreh, aka “Food Porn Detroit”, is Detroit’s most reputable food connoisseur. He grew up in Chicago with an interest in hip hop music and moved to Detroit. For the next few years, Gus traveled from city to city working for different hip hop radio stations. It was on a trip to California where his passion to become the ultimate food enthusiast ignited.

He moved back to Detroit and worked in the jewelry business while he built his brand with the slogan “Don’t Just Live Life... Taste Life”. The “Food Porn Detroit” movement was born. Gus is no food critic, nor is he a Michelin star rated chef. He is a restauranteur, a food rolodex and the mastermind behind a massive movement.

After five years in the industry, Gus has gained a large following, a superior reputation, and formed relationships with most local restaurant owners and managers. By whom, he is respected and identified as a true expert in and around the Metro Detroit area. He is able to flood an independent, family owned restaurant with customers by pinpointing specific dishes.

His opinion is trusted and his word is bond. With an incredible number of restaurants behind him, his larger then life personality and his slogan which he lives by.
